OI Clustering Heatmap
PROOpen Interest & Flow · HTTP Data · Pro Tier
Overview
The OI Clustering Heatmap visualizes where open interest concentrates across the strike chain. Rather than showing OI as bars, it uses scatter, bubble, and heatmap modes to reveal the density of positioning — making it easy to spot "magnet" strikes where OI clusters most heavily.
Strikes with high OI act as gravitational centers for price. Market makers must hedge against these positions, creating predictable flow patterns around the densest clusters. This window helps you identify those clusters at a glance.
Key Features
- 3 visualization modes: Scatter (point plot), Bubble (point size proportional to OI), and Heatmap (large colored points with radius 18 for density visualization).
- Magnet strike identification: Automatically identifies the strike with the highest combined call + put open interest — the strongest price attractor.
- Spot price overlay: Vertical line at current underlying price. Compare spot's position relative to OI clusters to gauge directional pull.
- ATM range filter: Narrow the view to strikes within a percentage band around spot, removing far OTM noise.
- View options: Show Net and Net Only toggles to switch between combined and net OI views.
- Premium themes: Full theme library for chart customization via the THEME_PRESETS system.
- Guide Panel: Educational overlay covering OI clustering concepts, chart reading, and trading applications.
How to Read the Chart
| Element | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Large bubbles / bright heatmap areas | Strikes with heavy OI concentration — "magnet" strikes that attract price due to dealer hedging flows. |
| Small bubbles / faint areas | Low OI strikes — less structural significance for price action. |
| Spot price line | Current price. If spot is near a large cluster, expect price to gravitate toward and potentially pin at that strike. |
| Cluster gaps | Strike ranges with sparse OI. Price can move quickly through these zones due to lack of hedging friction. |
Use Cases
- Pin risk assessment: Before expiration, identify the highest-OI strike. Price frequently pins at max OI on OPEX day as dealers' hedging activity converges.
- Support/resistance mapping: OI clusters act as synthetic support and resistance. Large put OI below spot = support; large call OI above spot = resistance.
- Breakout target identification: If price breaks through a low-OI gap between two clusters, it tends to run toward the next high-OI zone.
